TENSIONS AND THE INTERNATIONAL ORDER: BIBLIOGRAPHIC REVIEW AND A STRUCTURAL PERSPECTIVE OF THE CONTEMPORARY INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FROM ENGLISH SCHOOL DEBATES
Keywords:
Structure, International Society, International Order, Tensions, English SchoolAbstract
From a bibliographical review of English School authors on tensions about the international order, this article proposes an analytical formulation of the normative structuring of contemporary international society based on concepts of democracy, development, and human rights. Discussions on perspectives about tensions between order and justice (BULL, 1977); primary institutions (VINCENT, 1986; WHEELER, 2000; BUZAN, 2004; KEENE, 2004); pluralism and solidarism (BUZAN, 2004; WHELER, 2000); vanguardism and syncretism (BUZAN, 2010); and the tolerant and civilising
aspects of international law and the UN system (GONG, 1984; KEAL, 2003; KEENE, 2004) will be presented. Then, it is proposed that the contemporary international order is a vanguardist and pluralist order, configured by the principle of tolerance and mutual recognition of sovereignty among states.
