THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION’S DISPUTE SETTLEMENT SYSTEM: WHAT DOES GAME THEORY TEACH US ABOUT THE BRAZILIAN STRATEGY?

This paper aims to examine the World Trade Organization’s Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) and to analyze the Brazilian strategies and responses in disputes with the most active members at the DSB: the United States of America and the European Union. To accomplish this, we infer Brazil’s patterns of behavior, examined through the analysis of its disputes in the DSB, with Game Theory models, which will be used to understand the pacifying position Brazil takes on the DSB to guarantee its individual interests and a better relationship with specific WTO members.
