CHINA AS A REGIONAL POWER: THE CASE OF CENTRAL ASIA

Resumo

O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar o comportamento da China enquanto potência regional, aplicando-o ao caso específico da Ásia Central. O argumento central é o de que Pequim procura forjar laços econômicos, políticos e militares com as Repúblicas centro-asiáticas, embora o seu soft power seja ainda pouco eficaz na região. Além disso, as ambições regionais chinesas são frequentemente encaradas com suspeição pelos países vizinhos centro-asiáticos, que ainda veem na Rússia a grande referência econômica, militar e cultural, fruto do seu longo passado soviético.
