Abstract

In this essay, scientific instrumentalism in its semantic and epistemic versions is examined, and some difficulties in its strategies for questioning scientific realism are shown.

Caetano Ernesto Plastino, Universidade de São Paulo, Brasil

Doutor em Filosofia pela Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Professor livre-docente sênior (aposentado) da área de Teoria do Conhecimento e Filosofia da Ciência do Departamento de Filosofia da Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Atuais linhas de pesquisa: 1) o debate entre as imagens realistas e antirrealistas acerca da ciência; 2) a dimensão social da racionalidade científica; e 3) a ética utilitarista e suas aplicações.
