Abstract

The study aims to discuss how participative management and the promotion of an ethical culture can positively influence an institution's performance by involving its members in decision-making and ensuring the legitimacy of institutional power. It begins by highlighting the importance of understanding institutions as authority systems embedded in broader structures and the need to establish ethical standards to ensure that power is legitimate. Power within organizations is discussed in terms of sources such as information, resources, and support, with an emphasis on the importance of integration and cooperation as organizing factors of power. The case study presents an example of innovative and participatory management in the Federal Police Superintendency of Rio Grande do Norte. It highlights actions taken to improve the organizational climate and enhance employee motivation, including regular consultations with institution members, training programs, motivational lectures, and facility improvements. These initiatives have resulted in a significant increase in productivity, with successful operations and a rise in investigations standing out.
