About the Journal

Discursividades is a biannual electronic journal associated to the Department of Letters and Arts at UEPB. The journal is intended for the dissemination and discussion of works and research in the field of language and its articulation with historical and social practices. Considering the constitutive role of language in society, Discursividades will give rise, above all, to research whose investigated themes are permeated by the studies of Discourse, Languages/Languages ​​and their teaching. Thus, the journal houses productions dedicated to understanding the functioning of language in the various symbolic objects in society. Its objective is the dissemination of unpublished works, of a theoretical or applied nature, in the aforementioned lines. It publishes contributions from collaborators from Brazil and abroad that are written in Portuguese, Spanish, English or French. At least one of the authors of the work must have the title of Doctor or Master.

The journal Discursividades receives submission of articles in a continuous flow system. No fees are charged to authors for the submission or publication of works.

Peer Review Process

The journal Discursividades has an Editorial Board of notorious knowledge in the areas covered in its focus and editorial scope. The originals received will be selected and evaluated as to form, and, as to merit, by two reviewers of the Editorial Board or ad hoc consultants, within their specialties. The originals that do not fit the editorial line and the section policy, as well as the original presentation rules, will be immediately rejected by the section editor. In the merit evaluation process (blind evaluation), the works may be accepted in full, without restrictions; accepted in full, with some restrictions; and rejected. In the case of a favorable opinion and another not – and that are clearly in disagreement –, the work will be sent to a third referee. If there are favorable opinions, but that point out serious problems in the article, the editors of the journal reserve the right to reject it without consulting other reviewers. When there is a need for changes regarding grammatical, orthographic, textualization and standard norm aspects, with a view to maintaining the quality of the publication, the Editorial Committee will give itself the right to make the necessary changes, respecting the author's style. In other cases, the author will reformulate the text as requested by the Editorial Board.

This journal offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge available to the public free of charge provides greater global democratization of knowledge.

Ethics and Good Publication Practices

Discursividades journal guides its editorial conduct in accordance with the practices developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), by SciELO. The documents produced by Organs aforementioned bodies aim to offer high ethical standards and good editorial practices for scientific journals. Therefore, Discursividades journal conduct is based on the Core Practices, on Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, and on the Guide to good practices for strengthening ethics in scientific publishing. Consequently, editors, reviewers and authors follow guidelines to work in the journal throughout the pre-publication, publication and post-publication process of the works.

This journal practices guidelines and standards developed by these guides and committees:

  • Duties of Editors

  1. Publishing decisions:

The editors of Discursivities are responsible for deciding which articles submitted to the journal should be published. Editors may follow the policies of the journal's editorial board and will take into account legal requirements regarding matters such as defamation, copyright infringement and plagiarism.

  • Confidentiality:

Editors and any member of the Editorial Team must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers or other editorial advisers, as appropriate.

  • Disclosure and conflicts of interest:

Unpublished materials published in a submitted article must not be used in the editors' own research without the express written consent of the authors.

Members of the Editorial Board, Editorial Board or ad hoc consultants undertake to:

  1. indicate its availability or unavailability to issue the opinion in an agile manner;
  2. reject the assessment if you do not feel able to carry it out or if you find any conflict of interest;
  3. evaluate the works submitted to the journal objectively and for their intellectual content, without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, geographic origin or political thought;
  • Confidentiality:

The works received for analysis must be treated by the referees as confidential documents. They must not be shown or discussed with others unless authorized by the editors.

  • Objectivity standards:

Reviews and opinions must be conducted and written objectively. Personal criticism of the authors is inappropriate. Evaluators must express their opinions clearly, using arguments that support their evaluation.

  • Recognition of sources:

Reviewers must identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors. Any assertion that an observation, derivation or argument has been published before must be accompanied by a citation of the relevant source. A reviewer should also draw the editors' attention to any substantial similarity between the manuscript in question and any other published work of which he or she is personally aware.

  • Authors Duties:
  1. Underlying data must be accurately presented in the manuscript:

An article must contain enough detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or intentionally inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

  1. Originality and plagiarism:

Authors must guarantee that they have written completely original works; if authors have used the work and/or words of others, they must ensure that they are properly cited or referenced.

  1. Multiple, redundant or concurrent publication:

Authors should not publish manuscripts that essentially describe the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Additionally, submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously constitutes unethical behavior and is unacceptable.

  1. Source recognition

Proper recognition of the work of other researchers should always be done. Authors should cite all publications that have been influential in determining the nature and results of reported work.

  1. Authorship of the article:

Authorship should be limited to those who made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. The corresponding author must ensure that all appropriate co-authors are included in the paper, and that inappropriate co-authors are not included; must also ensure that all co-authors have viewed and approved the final version of the document and agreed to its submission for publication.

Upon submission, the e-mail addresses of all co-authors must be provided. Once accepted by the Editorial Board, Discursividades will send a copy of this statement to all co-authors, for which expressions of agreement are expected as requirements for the beginning of the evaluation process. From then on, all communication will be made only with the corresponding author.

  1. Disclosure and conflict of interest:

All authors must disclose in the manuscript any financial, professional or any other substantive conflict of interest that could be interpreted as influencing the research results or the interpretation of these results. In addition, all sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.

  1. Fundamental errors in published works:

When an author discovers an error or significant inaccuracy in their own work published by Discursividades, it is their obligation to immediately notify the journal's Editorial Team and collaborate with them to retract or correct the article.

 Misconduct in research

In no case does Discursividades journal encourage misconduct or allow it to happen. Consequently, any allegation of research misconduct is promptly investigated. Therefore, the journal is always willing to publish corrections, clarifications, right of reply, retractions and apologies when necessary. Mistreatment of research subjects, falsification and fabrication of data and piracy or plagiarism are considered to be research misconduct. Plagiarism takes different forms and, on some occasions, can be done unintentionally. However, plagiarism in any of its forms is unethical and unacceptable editorial behavior. Also, it is important to note that Brazilian legislation provides for copyright protection in Law No. 9,610, of February 19, 1998 and, therefore, any form of plagiarism is considered a crime. In this sense, article 184 of the Brazilian Penal Code provides that any copyright infringement may result in detention or payment of a fine. Consequently, when noticed, plagiarism will suffer the sanctions applicable by the Editorial Team and by Brazilian legislation.

Works published in Discursividades journal are licensed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. Thus, authors or third parties may copy and redistribute licensed material in any medium or format, and remix, transform, or build upon the material provided proper credit is given to the original work. It is noteworthy that the redistribution, transformation or creation, on the initiative of the authors or third parties, must mention the precedence of its publication in this journal, citing the volume, number and date of this publication.

The Journal history

The magazine Discursividades was conceived from an extension project developed by Professor Dr. José Domingos at the Department of Letters and Arts at the State University of Paraíba. The inaugural issue of the journal came out in October 2017. Since then, the journal has been regularly publishing an issue every semester.

In 2022, attentive to the innovative trend in the field of scientific dissemination, Discursividades adopted the continuous flow publication model, aiming, above all, to accelerate the communication process of research and thus contribute to its availability for reading and citation.

Also this year, aiming to enhance the quality and presentation of the published works, the magazine gained a new visual identity, with a more contemporary logo and layout.

As of March 2022, the process of implementing a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) ​​began for all works published in Discursividades since the first volume.

Since March 2024, with the publication of RESOLUAÇÃO/UEPB/CONSUNI/005/2024, which deals with the creation of the Faculty of Linguistics, Letters and Arts – FALLA, the magazine Discurstividades becomes a publication linked to the Faculty of Linguistics, Letters and Arts – FALLA.

Privacy Statement

The names and addresses informed in this magazine will be used exclusively for the services provided by this publication, not being made available for other purposes or to third parties.

Archiving

This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed filing system among participating libraries and allows them to create permanent journal archives for preservation and restoration. This archiving can be done at the time of publication of the work, in its post-print version.
