This research, of a qualitative, bibliographic-documentary and analytical-interpretative nature, aims to analyze gender relations based on the short story “Hipólito”, written by Sonia Coutinho and present in the work “The Last Summer of Copacabana”, published in 1985. In this work, the objective was, based on authors such as Helena (1989), Scott (1995) Welzer-Lang (2001) and Zinani (2015), to problematize gender relations in the narrative, as well as to indicate the interdependence of these relations in view of that the behaviors established by the protagonist and her “lover” are constructs of a patriarchal and heteronormative society that needs, in turn, to be validated within a social body. That said, it was found that the narrative constructed by Coutinho (1985), responsible for emitting a female voice, presents the social and everyday expectations given to gender and sexuality, in addition to metaphorizing the need for female bodies to be validated, due, above all, to the misogynistic system in which these are represented, constructed.
